Quite simply, the 2010-11 NHL season was not good to the New Jersey Devils. 2011 was the first time since 1996 that they missed the postseason. With interim coach Jacques Lemaire retiring once again, the Devils needed to find a long term replacement. On July 19, 2011, general manager Lou Lamoriello finally found his new head coach in Peter DeBoer.
