Winnipeg Jets: Message Sent with the Signing of Ondrej Pavelec

We have learned a few things about the Winnipeg Jets.

1) They aren't afraid to toss around some of billionaire owner David Thomson's billions.

2) Kevin Cheveldayoff plays a pretty mean game of chicken.

3) Ondrej Pavelec's modest .907 career save percentage and 2.99 goals-against average carry a higher monetary value than Jonathan Quick's recent Stanley Cup victory, his Conn Smythe Trophy and his Vezina Trophy nomination. Go figure.

We know all this because the cost of keeping Pavelec in River City for the next five National Hockey League seasons is $19.5 million. This will
